4 weeks in China by train
I travelled to China in 2007 when I was only 20, it was an awesome adventure and I have lots of fond and funny memories to look back on.
Seeing the Great Wall, the Terracotta Warriors, and the Yangtse River was amazing, however there is one particular memory that sticks in my mind. This is of travelling on an overnight train from Beijing to Xian in second class seats (sleepers had all sold out). There was a mother and a baby sat opposite my partner – baby had a baby grow on with a ‘slit’ in it, baby needed a wee and proceeded to wee on those sat opposite (including my partner) whilst mum fumbled for a water bottle to catch said wee in. Hilarious now, but not so much at the time.
Our itinerary: Hong Kong, Shanghai, Beijing, Xian, Chonggqing (then onward to Wuhan via a Yangtse Cruise), Guangzhou
2 weeks driving a Suzuki Alto around Morocco
We travelled to Morocco for Christmas and New Year 2010/11. It was such a last minute trip and we didn’t do an awful amount of planning, but it was a great experience. We decided to hire a car as buses were relatively expensive and we wanted the freedom to explore, I’d definitely recommend doing the same. My fondest memory is on New Years Eve, sat around a camp fire on the outskirts of the desert with a bottle of Moroccan red wine, looking up at the bright, bright stars, along with another couple and a group of local guys playing the guitar.
Our itinerary: Marrakesh, Ouarzazate, Zagora, M’Hamid, Merzouga, Todra Gorge, Fez
2 week camper trip around New Zealand – South Island
My first trip to New Zealand was for Christmas and New Year 2011/12. It was an opportunity to ‘meet the parents’ as New Zealand is Ben’s home country, and therefore also a chance for him to show me around.
We could luckily borrow a camper van from Ben’s dad and so we took a 2 week camper van trip around the South Island. The highlights for me were Mount Cook and the Milford Sound where I saw my first dolphins in the wild.
Our itinerary: Golden Bay, Murchison, Hokitika, Milford Sound, Queenstown, Wanaka, Mount Cook, Franz Josef, Tekapo, Christchurch, Kaikoura, Picton, Nelson

Aren’t road and camping trips the best? I never expected to love my 2.5 month road trip around Australia as much as I did, since I figured I’d be a terrible camper O:-) So many great memories to be made! Hope you have some more road trips in store 🙂

Ha! I love the China baby story… only in China! I took that train too, but thankfully no weeing baby or I would not have been a happy camper… Morocco by car is such a great idea, I would love to go back there some day, it’s one of my favourite countries to visit. Ah, so many places, so little time… Happy travels 🙂
